Lyrics: Can You Tell? © 1999 Marshell Jones You never can tell All the stories inside When you First meet eyes Mirrors to the soul But you still don't know So you guess And most times You're wrong Courtroom fantasies Play in your head And you see What you wanna see But the cover's a chameleon Changin' 'fore your eyes 20 times And you're still on page 3 You never can tell Can you? Can you tell? You never can tell Can you tell, tell? You never can tell Ooh baby you can't tell You never can tell All the roads Imprinted by the arch Of old souls Sold to the highest bidder Still holding out For the pot of gold Showered by the rainbow Showered by the rainbow You never never can tell You never can tell Never tell Tell what you don't know What you don't know What you don't know Mmm they say Those who tell Don't really know Those who know Keep their mouths closed So Don't you tell, baby Never never Don't you tell What you don't know

Lyrics: Fetu Lele (Flying Star) © 1999 Marshell Jones I have come here From a starry hearthside To remind you You are god You are Bright star Shining Lighting up nights Enough to flood The sky With purple kisses of light Moist And your eyes Rain with peace and flowers Petals of pain Give way to showers I know I am here To be Touching Your light Fingertip-lessly In a zone called Free Floodgates fly Latch See? See? Sea patches of blue hue You are womb And divine In me I have come here From the sunny side Of galaxy To Remember You Are free

Lyrics: Evidence of Things Not Seen © 1999 Marshell Jones When I look Into your eyes I feel the love Of the ages When I look Into your eyes I feel the love Of all time Then I know That I want you By my side For all times For all time When I look Into your eyes When I hold you In my arms My ages Old soul Knows this home When I hold you In my arms My wonder-less soul Says amen

Lyrics: Like There's No Tomorrow © 1999 Marshell Jones Love me Like you Could you Could you love me Would you love me Like You're outta time? Like there's no tomorrow Would you Put me in a trance With a dance You've never danced before? Like there's no tomorrow Would you Give up Your lies And just look me in my eyes And see Only you?

about

A soul-caressing melange of funky jazz vocals, that expand the possibilities of the human voice.

Album Notes
Welcome to the work of a sister spirit. Marshell Jones preaches daily from her gospel of self-love. With her debut CD Evidence of Things Not Seen, the New York-based vocalist/song-writer from Baltimore, is sweet enough to share some of her insights.

A soul-caressing melange of funky jazz vocals, Marshell's original compositions entice the ear with their lyrical wit and gutsy melodies. A master of the art of improvisation, she creatively synthesizes music and poetry to weave stories of life, love and other unsolved mysteries.

This is sonic incense, tae-bo for our conciousness, the steaming medicine of herbal tea. This CD sounds like Baltimore & Berkeley, Brooklyn & Brazil, Senegal, Hawaii and somewhere close to you. Can you tell? This is us giving gracias to Marshell for reminding us that we"ve come here to realize who we are. Let's Listen like There's No Tomorrow...

In collaboration with some of the most inventive instrumentalists on the New York scene, Evidence of Things Not Seen highlights Marshell's amazing ability to expand the possibilities of the first instrument: the human voice.

In a most evocative way, Marshell integrates her instrument into the rich soundscape of the ensemble, traversing an impressive spectrum of cultures, times and emotions.

Whether working it out duo-style with acoustic bass or funking it up South Asian-style with a sitar in the full-band mix, Marshell's music is about risk-taking and envelope-pushing.

Evidence of Things Not Seen is a sure testament to this creatively audacious but consistently classy act!
